About Emily

Hello, I'm Lora - a qualified, BACP-registered person-centred counsellor working with adults who often look like they're coping on the outside, while feeling very different underneath. Who I work with I work particularly with people navigating anxiety and overwhelm, career and life transitions, and the emotional impact of ADHD - including how it can shape self-esteem, relationships, confidence and everyday life. Many of the people I work with are used to being the ones others rely on: high-achieving, capable, and rarely the ones asking for help. That can make it harder to admit when things don't feel right, or to know where to start when they do. You don't need a diagnosis, a clear explanation, or the "right" words to begin. Sometimes you simply know that something doesn't feel right, and having space to explore that can be valuable in itself. How I work My approach is person-centred, which means you're the expert in your own life - not me. But that doesn't mean I sit back and simply reflect things back to you. I take an active and engaged role in our sessions: asking questions, noticing patterns you might not have named yourself, and, where it's helpful, gently challenging perspectives that may be keeping you stuck. Other therapeutic techniques and perspectives may also be incorporated where it's useful. You remain fully in control of the direction and pace of the work throughout. Before training as a counsellor, I worked across law, teaching and personal training. Those experiences gave me a genuine, practical understanding of pressure, high expectations, life transitions and balancing different roles - and shaped my belief in understanding ourselves with compassion rather than criticism. I gained further clinical experience through placements with Mind in Rochdale and 1Point Bolton. What a first session is like Your first session is really a chance for us to get to know each other. We'll talk about what's brought you to counselling, what you'd like support with, and what you're hoping to get from our work together. You don't need to arrive with a clear explanation or everything figured out - we can start wherever you are, and take things at whatever pace feels right for you. There's no pressure to share everything straight away. Some people come with a specific situation in mind; others simply know that something isn't sitting right, without being able to say exactly what. Both are completely fine starting points. My aim in that first session - and in the sessions that follow - is to help you feel genuinely heard, and to begin making sense of what's going on for you, together. If any of this sounds like it might be useful to you, I'd love to hear from you. www.lorafitton.com
